Today is the day! My boys are coming home from church camp this afternoon. They have been away since Sunday afternoon. I have been so surprised at my feeling of loss with them away. You know, when you homeschool, your kids are with you pretty much 365/24/7. I don't know about you other homeschool moms out there, but after a while your brain starts screaming, "I need a break!". I was so looking forward to this break. I had so many plans, so much I was going to accomplish while they were away. The truth...I had no energy, no mojo, no desire to really do anything. I think I was seriously depressed! If that isn't the craziest thing ever. I think this time away has been great for me and for them as well. We have a whole new appreciation for each other and I have really come to realize how much I need them and want to spend every minute with them. I miss the noise, the refrigerator door opening every 10 minutes, the "Mom, I'm hungry", the "Mom, I'm bored", and yes, even the fighting. I miss my family room being covered in blocks and army men and seeing them building forts together, or hearing them just talk and play together. Mostly, this week stopped me in my tracks and made me take the time to realize all of the "little things" they bring into my life. I have gone from a homeschool mom on the edge of burn-out to a homeschool mom looking forward to spending more time and making more memories with my children. I think maybe now I am ready to plan and look forward to the next school year. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be able to homeschool my children and to share every part of their lives, to watch them grow, and to share every accomplishment and to know that I have a part in their everyday lives. I thank the Lord every day for my children. They are such a blessing to me. On those tough days when I struggle and think, "Am I going to be able to make it until bedtime?", I know it is God's grace and love that gives me the strength to keep going.
Have a great day and take time to enjoy the little things!
