Midnight Madness Challenge 20

I wanted to try my hand at the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge this week. I will admit this was quite the challenge for me as I am not very confident with layers. It is something I really struggle with.

I love to find inspiration from my jars of buttons when I am trying to decide what colors to use. After moving them all around for a bit, I decided to use Enchanted Evening, Scarlet Jewel, Lavender Moon and Plum Pudding. A totally new color combo for me. The images are from the In Bloom stamp set and are stamped onto Lavender Moon cardstock. I traced the outline of the flower image in the main panel with a clear Stardust glitter pen. I inked up just the "friend" part of the sentiment and stamped it in Plum Pudding onto a cuttlebug tag cut from Lavender Moon.

It's Your Day

I was looking for inspiration to make a birthday card for my husband when I remembered Sketch Girls sketch that I have been wanting to try. It was a perfect fit for the stamps I wanted to use. I started with Kraft cardstock and stamped the swirl stamp in Versamark ink. I also stamped stars with a glue pad and added glitter but it doesn't show very well in this photo. I embossed the square panels with the stars cuttlbug folder and added Crystal Stickles to the edges. I cut the stars with the Cricut and the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge at 3" & 3 1/4" for the large star, 2" & 2 1/4" for the medium star and 1 1/4" & 1 1/2" for the small star. I cut the border from Enchanted Evening cardstock using the Fiskars Upper Crest border punch and then trimmed it. I stamped the little star flourish from Faux Ribbon in Enchanted Evening. I used several stamp sets on this card and I will list them all in the supply list below.

A little something for me

I rarely make anything for myself, but I wanted something to write a grocery list on and decided to doctor up one of my cut jr. legal pads. I just added a strip of paper to cover the top. I stapled a strip of ribbon to the side to hold the matching beaded pen that I made and added a strip of magnet tape to the back so I could stick it to my frig. Viola! the perfect solution to me always loosing my grocery list and it's right there so my family can add to it as we run out of something. It only took me about 10 minutes to whip this up, so I think I will make a bunch of these for Christmas gifts this year. Who couldn't use a cute little notepad and matching pen for their fridge?

A Button Tree

I have been looking at this tree image from the Unity November kit of the month for some time now, thinking how cute it would be with buttons and I finally found the time to make a card with it.  I also have spent several days organizing my scraps into a more managable mess and decided that I must start using more scraps, so that is what I used on this card.

I stamped the tree on Rustic White cardstock in Burnt Umber and colored in the base of the tree and outlined the branches with prismacolor pencils.  The buttons are a mix from several places.  I cut the image with a curvy rectangles nestie then distressed and curled the edges. The ribbon is also from my stash.

New Beginnings

I made this card for a new mom-to-be. The image is from KLM Designs called Mother & Child. I colored it with Copic markers. The sentiment is from Birds of a Feather and is stamped on cardstock die cut with a Ribbon Tags die. I tied it with white organza ribbon and then tied the ends together with blue embroidery floss.
For the inside, I used the same image reduced to 25% opacity so I could add a message and matted it to the same patterned paper I used on the front.

Sending a Smile

My son is spending a couple of weeks in New Hampshire with his grandparents. I made a card to send him to let him know how much we are missing him. I started with kraft cardstock and stamped Background Basics: Retro's circle stamp in Burnt Umber across the center. I then used a Copic B99 marker to color in the center circles to match my blue cardstock. I stamped a Fancy Flourishes stamp twice, once on the top and once on the bottom of the strip I had created. For the main image I stamped the flourish from Everyday Classics in Spring Rain and the bird from the same set in Burnt Umber. The wing was stamped in Enchanted Evening, cut out and adhered with a piece of foam tape. The sentiment from Everyday Button Bits was stamped in Enchanted Evening. I then cut out the image with a Long Rectangles nesties die and matted it onto some Enchanted Evening cardstock cut with a scalloped long rectangles nestie. I lightly inked the edges of the cardstock and the main image piece with Chamomile ink. I like the way it turned out and this sentiment was just perfect for the occasion.

Happy Trails

I found a couple of minutes to stamp last week and made this card with the Happy Trails set by The Angel Company. I stamped the horseshoes in Versamark on Kraft paper and stamped the horse in Burnt Umber ink on Rustic Cream. The patterned paper is Basic Grey Granola and I matted it onto brown cardstock. The sentiment from Forever Friends is also stamped in Burnt Umber on Rustic Cream. I used a Labels One die to cut it and then cut it in half and tied twine around it. I added a button for the finishing touch.

Birthday Monkey

I was going through my pics on the computer and realized I never shared this card I made for my niece. The image is by Dustin Pike. I think it is called Birthday Monkey. I colored it with Copic markers and used some liquid pearls for the party hat and some lemon Spica glitter pen on the candle flame. The background is Lavender Moon stamped with Background Basics: Spots and Dots with Plum Pudding ink. The sentiment is from Everyday Classics. I cut the strip in a rectangle then used a 1/2 in square punch on the diagonal to cut the end. I then curved it with my fingers and adhered it with glue dots keeping the curves in place where I wanted them.

It is my turn to host the challenge for the Designing D.I.V.A.S. blogging group. What a wonderful group of ladies! I enjoy this group so much. The challenge is to make a card with a sentiment or word art as your focal point. Here is my sample.
I started with Pure Poppy cardstock and stamped Background Basics: Text Style in Versamark. I printed the sentiment off the computer after designing it in Photoshop. I first printed out the sentiment on plain printer paper and then taped a piece of Rustic Cream cardstock over the print and re-printed. I then cut it out with a Labels Two die. The patterned paper is Autumn Abundance and was used on the background as well as the punched flower. I think everything else is self-explanatory. I will post the supplies I used at the end of this post as usual.

Catching Up

I am taking today to catch up on posting some awards I received several weeks ago. I really am terrible about posting such things. I received the following awards from Cindy and Kirstin. Thank you for sending them my way.

The first one is from Cindy from Stamping Therapy. She has an amazing blog and I love visiting it. She is very talented.
I am to name 5 things that I love to do.

And the second one is from Kirstin from All over the map. I just recently met Kirstin through the Busy Bee Blogging group that I joined. Kirstin makes some really cute cards.
I am to name 7 interesting things about me.

Since the requirements are so similar, I am going to do them together.

I really don't think I am all that interesting, so here goes.

1. Jesus Christ is my everything. I am where I am and what I am today because He died and rose again for me and gave me new life in Him. I have been so blessed to be raised by Godly parents and pray my children will say the same thing about me someday.

2. I love being creative and have always loved making things from the time I was a little girl. I would love to go to craft shows and visit craft stores, then go buy the stuff to make it myself.

3. I love spending time with my family-both my natural family and my church family. I am so blessed to be surrounded by wonderful people.

4. I love to cook and try new recipes and wish that I had more time to do so. Dinnertime always seems to come so fast. I have big plans and then find myself just scrambling to get something on the table for us to eat.

5. I was born and raised in NH. Two years after I married my husband we moved to Maryland. Since then I have lived in New York and Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is my all-time favorite state. I love it here.

6. I would some day love to travel to Italy. That is my dream vacation. I know my husband wants to take me there and he gets very upset with me because I want to wait until our kids are a little bit older, but I feel that right now they need to come first and I'm not sure I would really enjoy it if I am worrying about them the whole time. So for now, I am content to watch the Travel Channel. (He will probably leave a comment on this post telling me how wrong I am.)

7. I always wanted to be a teacher growing up, but met and married my husband instead of going to college and then we had our first child right away. Little did I know that God would bless us with six children and I would have the opportunity to homeschool them. I really enjoy our days learning and growing together. I am so blessed!

Just a Simple Card

I have been such a bad blogger lately. It is amazing how fast time has been flying by these days. I have been spending a lot of time focusing on school and getting a routine down. Unfortunately, that hasn't left me very much time for blogging or even being creative. However, this is a card that came about kind of by accident. It started out to be another card (you may recognize the colors) for an image I was working with, but after I put the ribbon on I decided I liked it just the way it was. I just love how simple it is and the colors and the embossing is so pretty, I just didn't think it needed anything else. So, here is my simple card with no stamping, just using an embossing folder and some ribbon. When I decide what I will use it for, I will decorate the inside to fit the occasion.

I am really looking forward to having Monday off from school. I am hoping to get my house decorated for fall. I just love fall and decorating for fall gives me so much pleasure. I hope to find some time for blog hopping as well...and maybe I'll even get a card or two made.

KLM Designs: Release Day

This is my last card as a designer for the KLM Designs design team. I have really enjoyed my time with them and have had so much fun with the images. Today is the release day, so this image and the ones in my previous post are now available.

I, once again, used Kraft cardstock as my base. I punched a strip of Bazzill yam cardstock with a Fiskars rope punch and added a strip of patterned paper from Cornucopia. The image, of course, is from KLM Designs and I colored it with prismacolor pencils and OMS, then cut it with a Labels One die. The sky background was done with pastel chalks. The ribbon is some that I bought off the $1 aisle at Target last year and the leaves were bought at Jo-Anns last year.
